Sign Off

from Flotsam and Jetsam on Vimeo.

Seven years on from starting this blog and I’m finally writing the sign off. Working on this film was easily the happiest I’ve ever been at work and the proudest I’ve ever been about a final outcome.

The film has been screened all over the world, on television and at festivals and we've been featured on blogs magazines as well as gallery. If you've got a minute I'd say these are my highlights from the blog. I hope you enjoy the film.

Thank you Darling.

An update and 'Float'
So...we've finished the edit just the sound to do and few tweaks and we've got a film. It's been ages since my last post for 2 reasons 1, I wanted to finish the film and 2, I've not really seen anything worth bloging about until today.

'Float' is a documentary about the competitive world of rubber band propelled planes and the trailer completely fucks off.

Float Documentary Trailer from Phil Kibbe on Vimeo.

As if it didn't have me by 2:30 but there's string a version of 'Do You Realize' by the Flaming Lips, now I've spent my life trying to avoid string versions of Beatles songs but I thought this was a good choice.

The Wrecking Season

Is an increadably personal documentry about the beach combing of Nick Darke filmed and directed by his wife Jane. I've been trying to write a synopsis but the BBC site nailed so ill just quote it;

"This haunting film, photographed by Nick's artist wife Jane, which uses atmospheric and evocative archive shot by his father, captures a unique portrait of his daily work as he combed the wild seashore for the wonderful hardwoods, exotic sea beans, fishing paraphernalia and fascinating artefacts deposited on Cornwall's beaches by the ocean's long haul drift.

It's an uplifting tribute to a remarkable man whose house, garden and whole existence are full of the wonderful things he found and whose data and observations feed into important global ocean research and investigations."

Its not on the iPlayer but there is this and this.

Sign Painter Documentary

As a continuation from the 'Up There' post from last week, I found this to a blog for a documentary about sign painters in the US. Its nice to see another documentaries blog whilst they're still in production and the concept and the stills all look boss.

If you’ve wondered what an Island made out of plastic bottles would be like… Have a goosy gander at this;
The production value higher on this link, but I prefer how ridiculous the Interviewer and Richart Sowa, the island owner look in this video. Two and half minutes in and he belts out a song whilst holding a cat in the air. Then he goes on to explain how he’s going to fly the island around using his cooker as the throttle.

Hike means walk by the way.

Unfortunately Hurricane Emily destroyed the Island in 2005 but he’s started work on another.

Visual Acoustics

Visual Acoustics from wes on Vimeo.

This is another trailer I'm excited about at the moment. The film follows architectural photographer Julius Shulman at the ripe age of 97. Shulman best know for his Case Study House #22, Los Angeles, 1960.

Until The Light Take Us

I'm really excited about this one. Most trailers whip me up into a freenzey but i think this will be good. Both Aaron Aites, Audrey Ewell are from a indie music background and wanted to portray a balanced account. Getting to the bottom of church arsons and the murders that took place in Norway in the early 90's as the second wave of the black metal scene.

As a side note this is pretty funny look where they put Newcastle on the map (2:30).
